Sunrise Post Wedding in Banff National Park

I have been friends with Amelia & Matt since long before professional photography and videography became my life’s work. They spend much of their vacation time from work visiting Canmore, Banff National Park, and the rest of the Rockies to ski and hike, so we often spent time together, going out to explore different parts of the park for various outdoor activities.

A year ago, they got married in their childhood hometown in Ontario, and as a post wedding gift, I offered them a sunrise photoshoot which they eagerly accepted. Our original plan involved a hike up a poorly marked trail off the Icefields Parkway to a stunning viewpoint, but when we arrived at the trailhead the weather wasn’t cooperating with our plan. The wind was blowing, snow was falling, and the views were virtually non-existent. We decided to head back towards Canmore in search of better photography prospects, and as we approached Castle Mountain Junction, the sunrise began to peak through the clouds.
